UNIVERSE

　 2020


ユニバース（Universe）と名付けたのは、わからないもの、理解出来ないものへの期待を込めてである。
この言葉から、すぐにも宇宙を連想できるように、謎の部分を多く秘めているからこそわたしを魅了するのだろう。
何を素材にした作品かと言うと、右が、JRのある駅の領収書。
左が「HIDDEN JAPAN」展が開催された国と場所を印字したもの。
この二つは、特別な素材でもなく、どこにでもあるもの、それでユニバースと題し、
宇宙を示そうとしているのだから、不真面目な話と一蹴されるかも知れない。
けれども、わたしは、たとえ身近なものを素材にしても、宇宙を連想できるものを生み出せると言いたかった。
宇宙への憧憬は、ルネサンスを引き寄せ、月に着陸し、次々に人類が他の惑星の秘密を知り得たとしても、
謎の秘密が明らかにならないようにいつまでも遠ざかり、永久に解明されることがないということなのだろうか。

I named this “Universe” with the intention of placing hope in the unknown and the unknowable. Just as the word evokes immediately the image of space, so too does it hide many riddles, making it very attractive to me. The materials used to make the piece are receipts from a JR station, and list of places where “HIDDEN JAPAN” exhibition was held. Both are common materials which can be found anywhere, so some may dismiss this work as frivolous, with a title like “Universe” intended to evoke the cosmos. However, I wanted to show that even using everyday materials around us we can create something which evokes space. Our yearning for space brought forth the Renaissance, allowed man to land on the moon, and uncovered the secrets of other planets, and yet it will always remain beyond reach, with mysterious secrets, and forever inexplicable.
